- Tyre pressure: Check the tyre pressure before every ride. The correct tyre pressure will vary depending on your weight, the type of terrain you’re riding, and the type of tyres you have.
- Brakes: Check the brake pads for wear and make sure the brakes are working properly.
- Chain: Lube the chain regularly to keep it clean and working smoothly.
- Pedals: Ensure they spin smoothly and oil up if necessary.
- Shifting: Make sure the shifting is working smoothly and that the gears are shifting correctly.
- Wheels: Check the wheels for any cracks or damage. Make sure the wheels are true and that the spokes are tight.
- Frame: Check the frame for any cracks or damage.
- Bearings: Check the bearings in the hubs, headset, and bottom bracket for wear, oil up in advance of a ride.
- Other components:Â Check other components on your bike, such as the pedals, saddle, and handlebars, for any wear or damage.
- Last: If you feel that there’s to much going on, then any bike repair shop, or even someone like Halfords will be more than happy to check it over.
